The History of Rockbridge County NAACP:
After many years of inactivity, the Rockbridge County NAACP chapter was revitalized after being challenged by Rev. Michael Turner, Pastor of Ebenezer Baptist Church in Staunton, VA. Pastor Turner was the keynote speaker for the evening commemoration on the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. sponsored by CARE (Community Anti-Racism Education) at Randolph Street UMC. In his address, he stated that Lexington/Rockbridge Community should have a local NAACP Chapter. The audience applauded in agreement.
The Racial Justice Group of Fifty Ways Rockbridge ran with the challenge led by Tinni Sen, chairperson of the Racial Justice Group. The NAACP conference office was contacted to get info on how a chapter could be reestablished. Once the info was ascertained NAACP personnel came to Lexington from the national office and began soliciting the required number of people (50) to join the NAACP. Jacqueline Crawford-Johnson, Area Chair at the time was helpful in this process. Over seventy-five people became paid members of what was to be the newly formed chapter during the summer of 2017. Later in 2017 training was later given by Mark Lomax Chairperson of the Revitalization Committee at that time on the function and duties of officers of the  NAACP. On February 17, 2018, officers of the Rockbridge County NAACP were sworn in as provisional officers.
