Jamestown to Jamestown

Jamestown to Jamestown was a pilgrimage trip for NAACP leaders, activists, entertainers and others. They traveled from Jamestown, Virginia, to Jamestown, Accra for the 400 year anniversary of the first documented enslaved Africans’ arrival in the United States.

These are pictures of our first day in Accra, Ghana.  We were met at the airport with a warm and enthusiastic welcome.

Later in the day, we traveled to Jamestown, Accra, Ghana for a welcome home ceremony where we met tribal leaders and the president of Ghana.
The pilgrimage was billed as “Jamestown2Jamestown, The Year of Return,” commemorating the 400th ann. of Africans being stolen from Africa and brought to the Jamestown, VA colony. (1619-2019)

  1. A historic and memorable pilgrimage. The experience of being in Ghana went beyond my expectations. The people I met, the sites visited have left an indelible impact.
